Endura Sierra Update Version 1.3
Warning: Please update to version 1.1 and 1.2 before updating to 1.3. For North American units, please go to the Endura Sierra Update 1.1 for North America page. The 1.3 update requires the use of a standard microSD card formatted with either a FAT or FAT32 file system. The microSD card must have at least 50MB free for any Endura GPS model (Out&Back, Safari, and Sierra) to perform this upgrade properly. Best results are seen with a blank freshly formatted card.
The update file will be approximately 5MB in size. Additional space on the microSD is required for extracting the installation program and for copying and backing up files. Estimated download time is 1-3 minutes for DSL/Cable modems and high-speed cable internet or up to 1 hour for dialup 56k modems.
If you experience problems with the online installer, please first try to download the stand-alone installer for your operating system listed just below the online installer. If you continue to have issues downloading the update installer, please Contact Customer Support.
Notes:
Mac OS X users may need to reapply the execute permissions to the stand-alone installer after it has finished downloading. To reapply the execute permissions, open a Terminal window, and type the following command (this assumes you downloaded the file to your desktop):
chmod +x desktop/Endura_120.command
Prerequisite:
Java must be installed on your computer for the installers to operate. If you do not already have a Java JRE or JDK installed, please visit the Java website.
Installation Instructions
- Make sure the microSD card reader is properly connected to your computer (and, if necessary, that the drivers are installed).
Note: If you do not have a microSD card reader, you can use the Endura GPS unit as a card reader. You will need a standard mini-USB to USB cable (provided with the Safari model) to connect the Endura unit to your PC.
- Insert a microSD card (with at least 50MB free) into your PC’s card reader.
If using the Endura unit as a card reader, ensure the microSD is fully inserted into the bottom of the unit while power is off. Connect the Endura to your PC via the USB cable which should then power on the Endura unit.
- Click on the "Install This Update From the Web" link below to go to the installation web page.
- Wait for the Java web installer to download and run. Follow the Lowrance update installation instructions. If you are not sure about a step, just select the default choice.
- When the installer finishes you will be prompted to click Finish to exit. This step will copy the Installer.exe file to the root of the microSD card.
- Remove the microSD card from the microSD card reader or if using the Endura unit as a card reader, unplug the Endura unit from the PC and ensure it is powered off.
- If not inserted already, place the microSD card containing the software update into the card slot in the bottom of the Endura until it locks in place.
- Turn Endura unit on (ether by battery or USB power) and the software update will automatically begin the installation on the device. Follow the prompts as instructed. Once the software update is completed, the screen will read “The upgrade has completed successfully. You can now remove microSD card and reboot device”.
- Remove the microSD card from the unit, and restart the unit.
Please Note: The V1.3 update for all Endura models will take less than 3 minutes to complete.
Note:
If for some reason you have a problem with both the web installer and the stand-alone installer, or if you wish to load the update file to your Endura unit yourself, use the instructions here.
If your computer experiences problems with the web installer, try using a stand-alone installer. Note: Do not download this installer to your unit - save it to your computer and run the installer to load the necessary files to the unit.Simply choose the appropriate operating system below:
PC Win98/ME/2000/XP/2003/Vista | Mac OS X | Linux
How to see if your Endura Sierra is already using version 1.3 software:
- Insert the microSD card containing the 1.3 Update into the Endura unit and power on.
- If the update has already been installed on a device, it will not re-install a 2nd time and you will receive a message saying "This unit has already been upgraded with the 1.3 update".
What changes are made in this update?
Includes performance improvements:
- The software update installs the Navionics Viewer onto the Endura GPS device. This Viewer can then be accessed through the Tools button on the Main Menu.
- The Navionics Viewer provides customers the capability to use the Navionics microSD cards that they have purchased for their marine chart plotters on an Endura GPS as a secondary navigation device. The Navionics cards that are compatible with Endura are the Navionics Gold Marine (coastal charts) and Navionics Hot Maps Premium Lake charts on microSD cards.
